5 Tips for Social Media Marketing for Success

How to Use Social Media Engagement & Consistency to Your Advantage

Fussing with the ever changing algorithm?
Struggling to find a way to stay consistent with posting?
Putting posts in the drafts, too scared to post?

The world of social media marketing can easily become overwhelming if you let it. Even so, if you are a small business owner, being able to confidently navigate social media can only help you!

Take a moment to brush off your fears and misconceptions about social media. Take a couple deep, slow breaths.

We’re going to give you the tips and tools you need to become a confident social media creator and consumer.

Social Media Marketing Basics

1 - Establish Your Audience

Before you start posting, you need to know who you’re talking to. Hint: when you talk to everyone, you may as well be talking to no one! Niching down your audience is necessary, even if you have a couple different audiences.

Know things like where they’re from, what they value, how they best communicate, and what their needs are. Creating an audience profile is valuable to reference back to!

2 - Create a Plan

One of the best ways to curb social media anxieties is to approach it with a plan. Now that you know who your audience is, establish a few types of posts that you’ll rotate through. As a marketing agency, Oakes Creative House’s topics include educational content, about us, our services, and inspiration. While each post may be different, they all fall under these categories so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel every month.

3 - Just Post

If you have your audience established and a plan made, it’s time to just post. Your first post will never be your best one. You will make mistakes. But, if you never start, you’ll never grow. Start with something simple like an introduction post or a bit about your offerings. Rely on that plan, create consistent content, and it’ll be like second nature in no time.

4 - Engage

Social media engagement makes a difference. If you are posting, but not sharing with anyone that your business is on social media, you’re doing yourself a disservice!

  • Follow others in your industry and comment on their posts.
  • Respond to comments people leave on your own posts.
  • Stay active on your Instagram and Facebook stories.
  • Spend time engaging with a mix of popular and small business accounts.
  • Share your business profile on your personal social media pages!

Let your audience know that there is a real person behind your business, passionate about connecting with their customers. Set aside 15 minutes a day for social media engagement!

5 - Evaluate

Once you’ve found yourself settled into a routine, set aside time monthly, once a quarter, or annually to evaluate your progress on social media.

Ask yourself:

  • What performs well?
  • What needs work?
  • Is there anything new I want to implement?
  • How has my business changed?

Make changes as needed, then continue on in your social media journey!

Don’t let social media hold you back from growth in your business. Use it strategically, but remember: it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Look at social media marketing as a way to facilitate connection with your audience and growth in your business.

If you take one small step today, you’ll be well on your way to looking back a year from now proud of yourself for making positive change!
